Few boats say “Lake Tahoe” more than the mahogany runabout. This truly American type was popularized in the early years of the 20th century by designers such as Gar Wood, Chris Smith and John Hacker, who created boats that went fast and looked good.
Star Dust is one of Lake Tahoe’s most famous ride boats. She was used extensively by Fred Kehlet and his family to take the public for rides from their resort at Meeks Bay, CA.
In 1992, Star Dust won the Best of Show award at the Tahoe Yacht Club’s Concours d’Elegance for her owner John Wickland III. She was purchased by Tom and Polly Bredt in the fall of 2002 and donated to the Museum in 2004. Get a taste of the experience here.
