Summer Lecture Series – July 24, 2017 5:00 p.m.

  • Carol Van Etten, author and Tahoe research historian, will speak about “Yachtsmen of Yesteryear”. Between the heyday of Lake Tahoe’s steamers and the formation of the Lake Tahoe Power Boat Club, the Lake was home to the large water toys of a generation of Gold-Rush scions, who had her azure expanse pretty much to themselves. Each of these yachts had her string of proud owners, whose names would have been familiar to San Franciscans of the day. But as any Boat Guy knows, it’s about the boat, not the owner.
  • This event is FREE and open to the public!

Summer Lecture Series – August 7, 2017 5:00 p.m.

  • Randy Walker and Mary Jo Shepard “Runabout Racing on Tahoe.” Randy Walker and Mary Jo Shepard will discuss racing family runabouts on Lake Tahoe, originally begun by the Tahoe Yacht Club in 1925. The event’s history, description, and Randy and Mary Jo’s racing experiences – dating back to 1947 and 1953 respectively – will provide a backdrop for the members’ family boat participation, which was the reason for the events in the first place. There was, of course, always a “free for all” or “championship,” should the fast boats show.  Otherwise, the runabouts took those over, too.  There has never been another event like this anywhere in the world, and its basic format remained the same from 1925 until its final year in 1984.  Join us for an evening of fun memories.
  • This event is FREE and open to the public!

  • This year’s 45th annual Concours will again be staged at the historic Obexer’s Boat Company in Homewood, Calif., on Lake Tahoe’s beautiful West Shore with the two-day show open to the public on Friday, Aug. 11th, and Saturday, Aug. 12th.  2017 will feature another outstanding Marque class hosting the world’s best antique and classic utility boats from various manufacturers.
  • During the Concours, be sure to visit the Museum in Tahoe City.

Summer Lecture Series – August 21, 2017 5:00 p.m.

Walker will review the Carnival’s history; Fallatt and Shepard, who handled a similar museum presentation some years ago, will discuss the event’s place in Tahoe water skiing as well as their own participation as entrants.
  • This event is FREE and open to the public!
